Ontario & Western Railroad
The O&W started as the New York and Oswego Midland Railroad. It was a very expensive railroad to build with many bridges, tunnels, and running at right angles to the mountains. It went bankrupt in 1879 and was reorganized as the New York Ontario & Western Railroad. The Scranton division was created to haul coal and later the line was double tracked. Then in 1957 the entire 541 mile railroad was abandoned making it the first Class 1 railroad to abandon.

Here is an O&W tunnel that was uncovered when Penn-Dot was widening the Keyser Avenue exit. The tracks above the tunnel are used by the Canadian Pacific Railway.
