Just off Drinker Street in Dunmore is where route 611 originally ran. This was also known as the "Drinker Turnpike" After constructing Interstate 380's bridges, this route was cut off. It has active power lines and runs parallel to an old railbed once known as "Lackawanna RR" or "Jessup's folly" The active Delaware-Lackawanna tracks are below.
I was originally calling this "Old route 590"
NOTE: This was this walk that started it all. (09/04/03)
As you walk down you will still see the pavement and the power lines. You can also see the cuts in the rock face when this was built.
There are still sections of this road still in use today following the present day route 435. I have been told you can find signs that still say "Drinker Turnpike" See below for a photo of that sign.
You can see the active tracks below and in between them is the old Lackawanna line which originally linked up to these tracks. In the distance you can see the large 200 foot high bridge known as the "Jessup branch viaduct"
Old 611/Drinker Turnpike continues to the left towards the I380 bridges. The right path takes you to the Delaware-Lackawanna tracks. You can see the smaller Erie bridge in the distant.
You can see here where old 611/Drinker Turnpike was cut off. The power lines dive underground and re-appear on the other side. An old telegraph pole indicates the old Lackawanna line is nearby.
The other side of the I380 bridges. you can see the original brick under the pavement. The building on the right is now being renovated and put back into use. I think it was originally a slaughterhouse.

I found this sign just as old 611 merges back into present day Route 435. The old road has a building below now being used by a company that does fire restoration. In spots you can see the original brick road under the asphalt.
