Hey Mike,
Nice sites that you and your friend frank have. Just a note on your pics from state game lands 135 (WB&E). The granite post that you thought was possibly a milemarker is just just a boundary marker for the Greenwood Sportsmen's Club property to which I belong. Not anything to do with the railway. Also the bridge that you photographed was used as an underpass for cows to get under the tracks to get to Ash Creek for water when that whole area was a farm thru the 1950's.just some facts to put a perspective on things.
        Again,nice site. Tom Heckman

Mike,
This really is a most fascinating site. I've always been interested in exploring abandoned or mothballed railways and sadly here in the UK we have rather too many of them!. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the time you took to answer my question about the NYS&W.This looks like a great site and I will enjoy checking it out.I'm enjoying the O&W pictures.I think a part of that ran across from Cairn's Pool on the Beaverkill in Roscoe NY where I trout fish. They have the O&W museum there with a caboose.

Mike,
This is a great addition to RR knowledge and industrial archaeology in general.   Thanks for turning your hobby into valuable knowlege.   I second Don Liotta (Dec. 22, 2008).   I hope you can find at least one if not more historical societies who will preserve this information you have gathered.

Mike,
Great site! Ashley Planes brought back a lot of memories I grew up on the planes,Planes Avenue. The coal cars parked right in front of my house.I was always up and down the planes long before the interstate was built and the remains of Planes were in better shape.I swam in the creek and fished in the resevoire. Used to sleigh ride down big coal banks that were once near Planes Ave.Grandparents lived in a company home across street from blue coal breaker. Can remember their outhouse (LOL). Happy someone is interested in place I grew up and glad I found your site.   Mary in Mountain Top,Pa.

Mike,
I just heard about your site from a friend at work, we were casually talking about what I did when I was a kid and I had mentioned believe it or not,   the subject of hopping freight trains to go fishing from Forest City to the Stillwater Dam, I was almost in tears to hear that that railway was history. Being from Long Island I haven`t been back there in years.Great job with the photos of Stone Face I remember that well, along with skinny dipping near bye. Joe C.

Mike-
Great site!   I found this very interesting.   I grew up about 75 yards from the O&W stretch between Poyntelle and Preston Park.   I spent my childhood exploring the O&W from Hancock to Poyntelle.

Great work, keep it up!

Thanks for sharing your work. You clearly spent a lot of time doing research, taking pictures and organizing the website. It contains an amazing amount of detail.

I last visited this site a couple of years ago, and it still marvel at it. You should consider having your work preserved by one of the historical societys. It would be a shame to lose the information you have carefully documented.

Sincerely,
Don Liotta

I was searching the web looking for information on the old WB&E rail bed, Suscon to Rt 502, when I found your web site. I was planning on exploring this rail bed with my bicycle, but after seeing your photos, I guess that's out of the question.

I would be nice if you added a yahoo Group (http://groups.yahoo.com)to your site so interested visitors could ask and answer questions.

For example, I would like to know the distance of the Suscon to Rt502 section. It looks to me to be about 3 miles??

Thank you for the web site, I bookmarked it and will follow your progress with it. Nice job.

I grew up next to the tracks in Laurel Run and hurled many a rock at the CNJ engines and coal cars as they went by...I can still smell the diesel.   You are providing a tremendous service to aging baby boomers!

I enjoyed your site - I looked at your visit to Mountain Park. Everyone in the Plymouth Historical Society website wondered where Mountain Park was and we were happy to find your map and photos.

What about the trolley line that once connected Wilkes Barre Pubklic Square to Kingtson, Larksville, Plymouth, Sans Souci and Nanticoke? Can you find any trace of that?

Thank you

Michael

Hello Mike, Thank you for the additional pictures and information on the DL&W Alford station. I took pictures of those buildings and have hopes of going up there to do some en plein air watercolor painting. It is far more overgrown at the present time. In wonderful shape however.
Thanks again! Sharon

Hi,
I enjoyed visiting your WB&E page today.
Thank you for taking the time to take these photos and post them online.
I have been researching the WB&E for many years and have given talks to local historical groups. Your info about the Pocono Lake area could be enhanced,   Feel free to contact me if you wish.

Great web site, I really enjoyed the D&H's Penn Div. I currently work for the D&H(CP Rail) as an engineer and I know I would have enjoyed running over Ararat mountain. Last month a friend and I went and followed the old Penn Div from Afton, NY to Carbondale and your web site and pictures were a great help, I wish i could have seen this line in operation for myself. Keep up the great work.

I hiked the old Dunmore Industrial (Erie) Line last week from Ash Street south to the Salvation Army.   Someone has put out surveyors marks and paint lines along a few hundred feet of rail.   Not sure what they are there for.

Also, almost immediately upon entering the old ROW, there appears to be a significant section of L&WV ROW (old Dunmore branch) about 100 feet down the hill.   It runs through people's backyards and then disappears from view.   I didn't pursue it as far as it went, though.

Nice addition to the D & H page of the Wye at Ararat. If you get back to Starrucca, look for the old ERIE Water Tank footings near the little white building. The footings are visible now but will be invisible once the foliage comes in. They are on the downhill side past the building across   where the road enters from the farms. The footings are quite substantial. The road once crossed the tracks here and the station was just north of the road on the same side as the water tower.

Hello Mike,
My sister, Kim Hawk gave me your card.
Very interesting site. I have been researching along similar lines, mainly focused on the LVRR along the Susquehanna.
Especially interested in the DL&W Factoryville tunnels. I'll have to look for them next time I'm up there.
Any plans to explore the LVRR?
